Metal buildings Kansas City KS — Johnson and Leavenworth County exurbs — are an active and growing market for Amsteel Midwest. Our three KC metro Project Advisors serve both the Missouri and Kansas sides of the metro, and the Kansas exurban communities in Johnson and Leavenworth counties are some of our strongest markets for acreage residential buyers. From Basehor and Tonganoxie in Leavenworth County to Spring Hill and Gardner in Johnson County, we coordinate delivery and installation of tubular steel, cold formed steel, and red iron buildings throughout the Kansas side of the KC metro.
The Kansas side of the KC metro has important permitting differences from the Missouri side — particularly Johnson County, which uses the 2018 International Building Code with comprehensive permitting requirements. Our Project Advisors know these markets and will make sure your project is spec’d correctly before you commit to a design.
Which Building Type Is Right for Your KC Kansas Project?
Tubular Steel — Our Most Popular System
Tubular steel is our highest-volume product and the system our Project Advisors know best. At 30’–40′ wide, a properly spec’d tubular building delivers an excellent result — durable, functional, and built to last — at a price point that works for the majority of our buyers. Leavenworth County’s unincorporated areas accept generic Risk Category I engineering for qualifying agricultural and utility structures — making tubular a viable option for the right Basehor and Tonganoxie area projects. Our most popular configurations in the KC Kansas market are 30×40 and 30×50.
Tubular buildings are highly customizable with foam closures, rat guard, rake edges, and gutter packages available as upgrades. For insulated builds, housewrap or reflective double bubble are manufacturer upgrades installed before panels go on. Site-specific engineering runs approximately $2.00 per square foot when required.
Cold Formed Steel — Best Choice for Johnson County Projects
Cold formed steel is our most frequent recommendation for Johnson County projects — Spring Hill, Gardner, and other Johnson County communities use the 2018 IBC with site-specific engineering required for most permitted structures. At approximately $0.75 per square foot for site-specific engineering versus $2.00 per square foot for tubular, cold formed steel delivers a better finished product at a lower total project cost for most Johnson County buyers. It comes standard with foam closures, soffit options, upgraded trim, rat guard, rake edges, gutter packages, and standing seam roof options.
Red Iron — 60’+ Spans and Commercial Applications
Red iron is the standard for 60’+ wide buildings and commercial applications requiring door openings wider than 20′. At 25’–30′ on center standard frame spacing, red iron delivers wide open bay configurations for large commercial and agricultural facilities throughout the KC Kansas metro.
